[University 2] A Collective Action Plan to Promote Sustainable Growth and Uphold the Value of Coexistence

Ongoing environmental crises coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic have triggered much hassle among numerous states and industries, highlighting the need for the international community, national governments, conglomerates, and individuals to take necessary actions to attain sustainable recovery and growth.

Environmental harm is not a challenge that can be resolved absent of cooperation among different stakeholders. In times of crisis, it is vital to take comprehensive cooperative measures on all three levels - the system, state, and individual - regardless of the distinct features of economic status, race, religious belief, and age. Thus, the present proposal specifies recommendations aimed to promote sustainable development and uphold the value of coexistence.

The biggest obstacle against the implementation of common policy resolutions is the lack of consensus on “recommendable emissions” and the lack of feasibility of the carbon emission trading scheme (ETS). Therefore, the international community must reduce the divergence in understanding regarding emissions and modify the ETS to incorporate explicit standards. These measures will promote common analysis of the issue and facilitate the policymaking processes among different states.

Cooperation among states within the international community will engender concrete discussions necessary to resolve the drawbacks. Regarding the role of the national government, execution of policies providing incentives not only to the corporations within the automotive industry but also individuals is vital for the pursuit of sustainable growth.

Conglomerates should modify and reinforce their corporate social responsibility activities, making concessions and reducing their pursuit for economic gains over the collective goals of protecting and preserving the environment. Moreover, individuals must incorporate a low-carbon food diet in addition to adopting eco-friendly habits of recycling, decreasing water use, taking public transportations, and promoting a minimalistic lifestyle.

Environmental crises and the COVID-19 pandemic is of transboundary nature; All entities are the stakeholders of the issue. Therefore, the issue must be dealt on multidimensional levels in a collective manner. When the right actions are taken at the right moment, we would be able to create a world in which we can coexist within our neighborhoods and global society.
